Partner

Though Ryan Hicks is the most recent addition to Burstin, Frantz & Hicks, this newly minted partner comes with significant experience that belies both his age and his tenure with the firm.

Ryan envisioned life as an entrepreneur even before he really knew how it might materialize. What he did know was that he wanted to advise people. “I discovered early on that I was good at taking complex things and making them understandable,” he recalls.

Mostly in order to satisfy his family, he earned a degree in accounting and he also studied finance at the University of Pittsburgh. Upon graduating, he interviewed with as many financial services firms as possible. He started out with a large national firm, and grew his personal practice – one client at a time. “As a 21-year-old, I had no idea how difficult it would be to build my own book of business,” Ryan laughs. “I had this fantasy that my family and friends would flock to me and seek my guidance on personal financial matters.”

That did not happen – at least, not to begin with. Ryan was persistent, and worked twice as hard, determined to build a firm that offered advice and solutions to meet a client’s complete needs. Over time, he specialized in performing audits of his clients’ risk management portfolios, including life, disability income and long term care insurance. Once clients recognized his capabilities, Ryan found himself fielding questions about asset management and retirement planning.

In 2015, Ryan earned the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ designation. He now offers comprehensive financial planning to business owners, medical professionals, executives, and pre-retirees. “I’ve always been a long term thinker when it comes to my own life,” says Ryan, who takes a similar approach to his clients’ financial lives, and advocates systematic planning.

Ryan is very involved with the local chapter of Business Networking International, where he has served in various leadership roles. Outside of work he makes it a priority to spend time with his family. He enjoys golfing, and occasionally rides moto-cross.
